He was the son of William and Pauline (Howerton) Gloye born on November 15, 1933 in Columbus, Indiana.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rites both in Indianapolis and the American Legion Post 18 in Bloomington.
John is survived by his wife Ann (Maddock) Gloye; four children Edie Gloye, Margie Walls (Robin), Sally Toler (Mark) all of Bloomington, and John Gloye (Valerie) of St. Cloud, FL.; ten grandchildren Neil Michalares (Amy), Jackie Gloye, Annie Walls, Ben Walls and Luke Walls, Keri Thatcher (Mika), Kevin Toler and Katie Toler, and Stephanie Gloye and Ainsley Gloye; great grandson Sean Schaffer; one brother William Gloye; and Several Nieces and Nephews from the Indianapolis area.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Marks United Methodist Church in Bloomington with Pastor Ned Steele officiating.
Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery in Bloomfield with military rites conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Allen Funeral Home in Bloomington.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, American Red Cross or Hospice of Bloomington Hospital in memory of John Gloye.
