Opal Mae Yates, 81, of Lyons, IN, and formerly of Earl Park, IN, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at the Greene County General Hospital in Linton. She was born in Kentland, IN, on April 25, 1928, to Leslie and Lottie (Atkinson) Voglund. On August 16th, 1947, she married Robert J. Yates. They had three children.

Opal was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Earl Park and Order of the Eastern Star. She was a homemaker and also worked as an Office Manager of the Tribune Star of Earl Park, IN, retiring in 1997.

Survivors include a son, Franklin Yates of Battleground, IN; two daughters: Margo Good and Carmelita Yates, both of Linton; four grandchildren: Dawn (Yates) Cherry, Rhett Good, Robin (Good) Schaeffer, and Rachel Brown; and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, George Voglund of Logansport, IN.

Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Yates (10/20/1996), a brother, Clyde Voglund and infant brothers.

A private family graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at Fairlawn Cemetery in Kentland, IN. There will be no public calling or visitation. Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton has been entrusted with the arrangements.
