Edith M. Stephens, 73, of Linton, passed away at 4:53 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 4, 2010 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
She was born in Greene County on Jan. 6, 1936, the daughter of Byran Close and Eula Salesman Close.
She was a member of the Pleasantville United Methodist Church, and was formerly employed at Crane and owned Stephen's Catfish Farm.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Elizabeth and Jessica Stephens, also one son Terry Stephens, one brother, Billy Close, and four sisters, Donna Gonser, Mary Miller, Martha Kennedy, and Ada Rollins.
Survivors include her husband, Claude Stephens, nine sons, Kenneth Stephens of Boonville, Darrell Stephens of Princeton, Charlie Stephens of Linton, Floyd Stephens of Linton, Everett Stephens of Shelburn, Kaven Stephens of Big Piney, Wy., Charles Stephens of Linton, Jesse Stephens of Putnamville, and Shane Stephens of Linton, three daughters, Barbara Stephens of Linton, Claudia Wright of Dugger, Brenda Plano of Brazil, 31 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010 at Newkirk's Funeral Home in Dugger with Pastor Shawn Farris officiating. Burial in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Vincennes.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today (Tuesday).
