Bob had been a resident of the White River Lodge in Bedford for the past three years, however before he was admitted into Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford on Jan. 2, he had his bags packed and was ready to move back home with his daughter to Eastern Green County.
Bob was then transferred from Dunn to Bloomington Hospital on Jan. 6, where he was then placed on a ventilator in the Intensive Care Unit for 11 days, and then transferred to the Medical floor, where he passed away.
Bob was born on July 13th, 1933 in Fayetteville on Pinkston Hill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Murl & Thelma (Miller) Evans; Two brothers, Jim & Ben Evans; one sister, Wilma (Evans) Haskett; one grandson Chad Michael, and also his children's mother Mary (Hale).
Survivors include; daughter Trena (Evans) Nikirk and her husband Randy of Bedford, daughter Christy (Evans) James and her husband Joe of Eastern Greene County, and son Micheal Evans of Oolitic; one sister, Toni Fields of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and two brothers, David Evans of Fayetteville and Bill Evans of Zionsville.
His grandchildren, Christopher Nikirk and his wife Amy of Bedford, Brandy (Nikirk) Anderson and her husband Chris of Bedford, Jacob Todd Nikirk and his wife Brittany of Bedford, Lucas Nikirk of Bedford, Tanner Bough and his wife Danielle of Loogootee, Seth & Brice James and fiancÚ Joni Crowe of Eastern Greene County, Jordan Evans, Aaron Evans, Nicholas Evans and Mallory Evans all of Bedford.
Also his beloved great-grandchildren; Casen & Madison Nikirk; Bristol Evan Elijah, Brookson, and Christan Anderson; and Little Tanner; also several nieces and nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts.
His career took him to Avoca, IN where he worked (and later retired) from Crulo Trucking. Papaw loved to go mushroom hunting in Eastern Greene County on Christy's farm, Papaw also loved working his "no weed" garden.
Visitation has been set for Monday, Jan. 25 from 4-10 p.m. with memorial services being conducted on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 2:30 p.m. at Bob's daughter's funeral home, Victoria Grace Funeral Home & Memory Chapel & A Touch of Grace Flowers, Gifts & More located in Little Cincinnati/Eastern Greene County.
Brother Kenny Walden of the Fayetteville Missionary Baptist Church, Brother Keith Thompson of the Free Penticostal Holiness Church in Little Cincinnati/Eastern Greene Country, Brother Bill Raines of Bedford, Grandson Nicholas Evans of Bedford, and Brother David Brock of Oolitic will officiate at Papaw's celebration of life. Papaw gave his life to God and was saved in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Jan. 20, 2010 with Joe and Christy at his side, the family widely opens the doors in sharing the Celebration Papaw's new life, as he was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
