He was born Jan. 12, 1940 in Greene County, the son of Albert & Ruth (Hasler) Gholson. He was raised in Jennings County, and was a former Westport resident.
He graduated from North Vernon High School in 1958, and retired from UPS in 1994 after 35 years of service where he was Union Steward for 35 years. He was co-owner of Jenco Medical and Mobility.
He was the Sandcreek Township Trustee, a position he held for the past 16 years. For many years he was the Chairman of Jennings County Trustees' Group which oversees the Coordinating Council and Homeless shelter. He also was a Democratic Precinct Committeeman for Sandcreek Township.
Memberships: Board of Directors of Decatur County REMC since 1997 and was currently the Secretary of Board and assistant Treasurer; Reserve Deputy for the Jennings County Sheriff's Department; on Board of Directors of the Ohio Valley Opportunities in Madison. For 45 years he sang with Gospel Echoes Quartet, traveling the Tri State area sharing the Gospel message. He was a member of the First Baptist Church at North Vernon where he had served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, Song Leader and Choir member.
He also had attended the Bethel Baptist Church at North Vernon, and had been song leader, Sunday School Teacher and Deacon at the Fredonia Community Church.
He served on the advisory board for the building construction program at Jennings County Community Schools.
Ron was a man who loved God and loved people.
Military service: He served nine years with the Indiana National Guard.
Hobbies: He enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, singing with the quartet and spending time with his family and friends.
He married Lois Ann Krom at Fredonia Community Church on May 14, 1961.
Survivors include, wife, Lois Ann Gholson; two daughters, Rhonda Ann (David) Ochs of Greenwood and Rochelle Lee (Jon) Douglas of North Vernon; a son, Ronald L. (Pam) Gholson, Jr. of North Vernon; two sisters, Martha (Bill) Padgett of Westport and Linda (Larry) Cunningham of Westport; three brothers, Gary K. (Mary) Gholson of North Vernon, James W. Gholson of Scipio, Ind., and Dennis R. (Teresa) Gholson of North Vernon; seven Grandchildren, Ashley Gholson of North Vernon, Devin Gholson of North Vernon, Katie Ochs of Greenwood, Allie Ochs of Greenwood, Maddie Ochs of Greenwood, Keaton Douglas of North Vernon, Kameron Douglas of North Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Judith Kay Gresham.
Funeral service will b Monday, Feb. 1, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church at North Vernon with the Rev. Ed Malone, the Rev. Bob Weeks, and the Rev. Joe Mayes officiating.
He will be buried Westport Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Jennings County, Jennings County Coordinating Council, First Baptist Church or the Bethel Baptist Church through the funeral home.
