Born in Sullivan County on May 23, 1928, he was the son of William McKinley Manuel and Pansy Critchfield Manuel.
He married Marilyn Shorter on Oct. 31, 1954 and she survives.
He was an Army veteran, a member of the Dugger American Legion Post 224, attended the Cass United Methodist Church, and Newberry Nazarene Church, retired from Amax Coal Co., and Sullivan County Highway Department.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, also one brother, Chuck Manuel, two sisters, Joan Smith, and Mary Blevens, and one great grandchild Bradley Wilson.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Marilyn Shorter Manuel, two sons, James Earl Manuel (Darlene) of Cass and Charles Raymond Manuel (Debbie) of Dugger, four daughters, Pam Ladson (Mike) of Dale, Ind., Charlotte Jane of Dugger, Jody Golish (Damon) of Cass, and Sandra Darlene Manuel of Cass, two brothers, Wayne Manuel of Dugger, Jake Manuel of Antioch, one sister Peggy Booth of Urichsville, Ohio, 10 grandchildren, Jim and Tim Manuel, Mike Ladson, Christina Bedwell, Kelsie Archer, Luke Manuel, Charity Cordell, April Monroe, Tabitha Ferree, Damon Golish Jr. and 17 great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010 at Newkirk's Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Ladson, and Gibb Pigg officiating.
Interment will be in the Dugger Cemetery with military graveside service by the Dugger American Legion. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today (Friday) and before the service Saturday.
