Evelyn Louise Murphy of Worthington passed away at the age of 82 on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at 8:52 p.m. at Bloomington Hospital.
Mrs. Murphy was born in Rockville, Parke County, Indiana on April 25, 1927, the daughter of the late Roy Homer and Burnice Forrest (McCall) Thomas.
Mrs. Murphy resided until 1974 in Frankfort, Indiana where she was a 1946 graduate of Frankfort High School. Following high school she completed the beauty school program at the Huffer Beauty College in Frankfort. She resided in Coal City and then in Ponca City, Oklahoma where she married John Lawrence Murphy on July 28, 1978. Mr. Murphy died on May 31, 2005. She then moved to Lebanon in July 2006 and recently to Worthington.
She was formerly married to Silas T. McCraney and they divorced.
As a beautician for 51 years, she worked in her own beauty shop and various others. In addition, she was a beautician in the nursing home.
She enjoyed her family and her work. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting.
She was a member of the Lebanon First Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include: One daughter, Ms. Christine McCraney of Worthington; one step-daughter, Ms. Patricia Murphy of Davenport, Iowa; sister-in-law, Mrs. Bettie Thomas of Lebanon; and several grandchildren.
A brother, Marion L. "Bud" Thomas, who had resided in Frankfort, is deceased.
Memorials may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
No visitation is planned. A family graveside service will be held following cremation. Myers Mortuary of Lebanon has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Interment will be at the Poplar Grove Cemetery in Marshall, Indiana.
