To the Editor:

I see where Nick Schneider, a journalist who is more qualified than I, has taken up my crusade urging the public to vote smart. I am happy to see this.

After a less than 28% voting in the primary, we need a voice more persuasive than mine to remind people of the gift that they have chosen to neglect. I hope national pride is more evident in the coming holidays, such as Memorial Day, Flag Day, and Independence Day. Thanks Mr. Schneider.

My faithful Buick was ailing last week. I stopped at McD's to visit the coffee corner with my coffeemates. When I returned to the car, it wouldn't start. I exercised my scant knowledge about cars and learned that I had much to learn. Others must be having car troubles too, because the car repair people were all "covered up." One person took the time to do a quick check. He turned the key and heard a click. He immediately diagnosed the problem to be a loose connection. My friend Jack F. asked, where in the car or in my head? Jack made that diagnosis instantly, also.

The mechanic took a wrench, tightened the connection and the engine jumped to life. I appreciate a man who takes minutes out of a busy day to help and old geezer in distress. What I appreciated more was his price. It fit nicely into my tight budget. This is a young man with a vast knowledge of automobiles in a convenient location and I think he is worthy of our patronage: Hale's Automotive on 6th St. N.E. just a half block from the railroad tracks. Why not give a try. You'll be impressed. Every day I find a new reason to be glad that we chose "Linton" as our residence.

I was chatting with a friend at Subway this past Sunday. He reads my Letters to the Editor. He says he doesn't agree with everything I write. He is a lifelong Democrat. After doing some soul searching I am aware that I am being a bit rough on all Democrats. Perhaps I've been painting with too wide a brush. I might have been wiser to focus on the National Party and the leadership. Many of the local Democrats are better people than I. The reason for my ill will is because of all the hate they have been and still are spewing. They lost two presidential elections by running a hate Bush campaign.

My friend Jack O'B, after Kerry lost, asked me "What's wrong with the Democratic party?" I asked him what they stood for. He replied, "they are for the working man." Then I asked him. What was their platform? He was silent for a bit, then answered, "I don't know." I said "neither did anyone else." The entire campaigns of Gore and Kerry were built on hating George Bush! This is what beat them. Even the good Democrats didn't fall for that. I believe the part would do a lot better if they abandoned that line of thinking.

O'Bama won because he is black. He carried a lot of "deadwood" in with him. The voters proved that racial bias is not as widespread as the troublemakers like for you to believe. O'Bama reached the heights on his own power and he also fell to the low level where he is today on his own power. He can't blame anyone but himself. He needs to rethink his politics.

The only point I find in the local Democrats is that they keep voting for the people who do all the big spending. Our bills must be paid. Who will do this if the whole county is broke! We're told that the system is broken and needs to be fixed. True, but the way to fix it is to "Throw the Bums Out!" Again, I exhort all of us. Vote smart!

Thanks for listening.
