She was born in Greene County to Erving M. and Bessie Mae (Padgett) Tincher on Dec. 10, 1919. On December 3, 1936 she married John L. Knowles and they had three daughters.
Velma was a cook at area restaurants, retiring in 1963. She was a member of Pleasantville Baptist Church and Ladies Auxiliary VFW. Her hobbies included fishing and card playing.
Surviving are her two daughters, Marilyn Jean Souders and Shirley (Fred) Chamberlain and son-in-law, Lloyd Sisk, all of Linton; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren; one brother, Charles Tincher of Lyons; and one sister, Annalee Hostetter of Worthington.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Arretta Sisk; two grandchildren; three brothers; and one sister.
Friends may call at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, and from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service on Thursday.
Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Dwight Gould officiating. Interment will follow at Stafford Cemetery in Sandborn.
