Dorothy M. Greene, 87, of Linton, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Greene County General Hospital in Linton.

She was born on June 24, 1923, in Westphalia, to Fred H. and Selma M. (Heidenreich) Linneweber. She married Edgar Z. Greene on December 11, 1942 and they had four children.

Dorothy was a homemaker and ran a poultry business with her husband. She also worked during World War II in a parachute factory. She was a member of Saron United Church of Christ, confirmed and baptized at Westphalia Salem United Church of Christ. Other memberships include Greene County Extension Homemakers, Greene Co. General Hospital Auxiliary and a charter member of Linton Ladies Civitan Club. Dorothy's accomplishments include Ms. Civitan '1978', Civitan of the Year in 1985 and 2003, Jane Award in 1983 and she was inducted into Linton Hall of Fame in 2001. Dorothy and Edgar have been known by decades of local preschoolers as "Mr. and Mrs. Farmer Greene" for hosting weiner roasts and hay rides. Dorothy was well loved and will be greatly missed by the whole community.

Survivors include her husband, Edgar Greene; three sons, Donald Greene of Bloomfield, Dale R. Greene of Carlisle, and Danny (Amy) Greene of Franklin; one daughter, Lorraine (David) Evans of Erie, PA; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald Linneweber of Columbus and one sister, Mary F. Frye of Indianapolis.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Robert Linneweber, one sister, Alma Ruth 'Sis' Lueking and one daughter-in-law, Nancy I. Greene.

The family has requested memorial contributions to be made to Saron United Church of Christ Memorial Fund or Clothe-a-Child. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or contributions may be mailed to the funeral home.

Friends may call at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday.

Visitation will continue at Saron United Church of Christ on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the hour of service.

The funeral service will begin at the church at 11 a.m. with Rev. Mike Roth officiating. Interment will follow at Sandborn Cemetery in Sandborn.
