He was born on December 11, 1937, in Linton to Roy W. and Cleo (Lambright) Ellis. On December 1981, Jim married Judy L. (Bowlin).
Jim served in the Indiana National Guard during the Korean War. He owned and operated Odon Milling Co./Magic Feeds, where it had been a family business for over 80 years. Jim was a 50 year member of the Linton Masonic Lodge #560 F & AM; Scottish Rite Valley of Evansville; Greene Co. Shrine and Shriners of North America; life member of the Linton BPO Elks #866 and Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at IU.
Survivors include one son, Todd (Latte) Ellis of Colorado Spring, CO.; three daughters: Dania (Gasper) Dominici of Denver, CO; Deanna (Chuck) Frye of Loogootee and Dorinda (Brian) Smith of Fishers; a step-son, Kent (Mikki) Parisien of Odon; 21 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Jean Ellis of Bloomington.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Judy, (April 2009) and a son Troy Ellis (August 2009).
The family has requested memorial contributions to be made to the Shriner's Hospitals for Children, 3229 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45229-3095. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton, 10:00 AM, Wednesday, August 11, 2010, with Richard Crabtree officiating.
Calling hours will be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 10 with Masonic Memorial Service starting at 7 p.m.at the funeral home. Calling will continue from 9 a.m. until the hour of service on Wednesday. Interment will take place at the Burris Chapel Cemetery in Linton.
