4-H to host 'Surrender of Summer Extravaganza'

Billed as the "Surrender of Summer Extravaganza," 4-H Clubs of Greene County will sponsor three days of activities featuring a demolition derby and truck and tractor pull Aug. 19-21.

The events will be staged in the main arena at the Greene County Fairgrounds, located one mile east of Switz City along State Road 54.

4-H Council President Tim Egnew, of rural Linton, told the Greene County Daily World that the proceeds from the fifth-year event will go back into the county 4-H program.

The county 4-H has about 1,000 regular and enrichment program members.

"It's just gotten a little better every year," he said. "We've added a Thursday in this year."

"King of the Demos" will present a demolition derby -- featuring cars, trucks and mini cars -- at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 19.

Admission will be $10.

The Smokestorm Truck Pull will start at 7 p.m.

"There will be some pretty hot stuff there," Egnew commented on the upcoming truck pull.

Weigh-in will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

The event will feature Diesel Work Stock (to 8,000 pounds), Street Diesel (2.6 turbo), Super Street (2.8 turbo) 6500 4 x 4 Altered Stock Gas Trucks, and 6500 Street Stock Gas Trucks.

Admission will be $12.

The DyaGro Seeds Tractor Pull will be staged Aug. 21 starting at 7 p.m.

The event will feature trucks, semis, 12,500 (no turbo) farm stock tractors, 13,000 turbo farm stock tractors (8 miles per hour), 13,000 turbo farm stock tractor (open), 9,500 Midwest Pullers Limited Pro, and Unlimited.

Weigh-in will be from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Admission is $12.

Parking is $1 per night.

There will be several food vendors available all three nights.

* 4-H Clubs of Greene County will offer grilled ribeye steak sandwiches.

* Jackson's Fish Stand will prepare fish sandwiches and drinks.

* Mansion in Heaven Church from Bloomfield will have a variety of sandwiches and drinks.

* Fat Matt's BBQ of Bloomfield will feature pulled pork.
