Born July 21, 1926 in Greene County, he was the son of William Grover and Martha Leota (Ruth) Gainey.
He was retired from NWSC Crane and OBR/Tucker Realtors. He was a member of the Linton Elks BPOE # 866, the Bloomfield American Legion Post # 196, the First Presbyterian Church in Bloomfield and the Shawnee Theatre Board of Directors. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Ann (Hawkins) Gainey of Bloomfield; one son Brian (Shawna) Gainey of Bloomfield; one granddaughter Megan Gainey of Bloomfield; three sister-in-laws, Barbara Gainey and Mary Lee Gainey, both of Linton, and Judy Gainey of Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Ulysses, John, Frank, Lloyd, Merl and Earl; and two sisters, Imogene and Geraldine.
Friends may call at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday August 24, and 10 a.m. Wednesday until the hour of service at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
Services will be at 11a.m. on Wednesday August 25 at with Rev. Murray Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Bloomfield.
