He was born Aug. 28, 1935 in Indianapolis to Norman and Evelyn (Smith) Vaughn.
He worked for the Monon Railroad through five mergers and retired from CSX in 1997 after 44 years of service. He joined the first National Guard unit in Linton on May 4, 1953 and served eight years. He was a member of the Worthington Masonic Lodge 577 and the Zorah Shrine in Indianapolis.
He married Joan Neihart Myers on Jan. 1, 1955 and she survives.
They have three children: Mike Vaughn of Pennsylvania, Rick Vaughn of Bloomfield and Kellee Webb (John) also of Bloomfield; five grandchildren, Dustin Vaughn, Nicole Vaughn, Skyler Pittman, Ryan Pittman and Amanda Vaughn; one aunt, Nada Young of Dugger, who also survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010 at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield, with the Rev. Brent Meyer officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the hour of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
