New bridge in Greene County

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

Work has been completed on a new railroad bridge on County Road 250W, located west of Elliston and south of State Road 54 in Fairplay Township. The bridge was opened to traffic about a week ago. The approaches to the bridge have been temporarily left gravel for the remainder of this year to allow time for the base to settle, according to highway superintendent Mike Hennette. This bridge and another on County Road 390 N -- near Tulip in Beech Creek Township -- were awarded to CLR, Inc., of Vincennes, last year. Both wooden railroad bridges were built in 1935. The combined cost of both bridges was $929,395.
