John William Allen, 83, of Summerville, S.C. and formerly of Bloomfield, passed away at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010 at his residence in Summerville.
Born May 20, 1927 in Newark, Ind., he was the son of David Clayton and Ada (Mason) Allen.
He worked for NSWC Crane and for Westinghouse before retiring as a self-employed truck driver. He is a veteran of the United States Army, former member of Bloomfield American Legion Post 196 and the Worthington VFW.
Surviving relatives include: two sons, David Lee Allen (Tondra) and Michael Wayne Allen (Sharon) both of Summerville, S.C.; one daughter, Connie Sue Kingsley (James) of Summerville, S.C.; nine grandchildren and 18 great, grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen (Hayes) Allen on June 28, 1995, one daughter, Rose Marie Joranlien, his parents, one brother, Robert Allen and sisters, Elsie Flanders, Nancy Reed, Betty Quillen, Ruth Gamer, Jean Chandler and Hilda Carmichael.
Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010 at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the Rev. Dean VanSlyke officiating. Interment will be in Owensburg cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday and from noon until the hour of service Saturday at the funeral home.
