Sybil B. Wakefield, age 93 of Linton, went to be with the Lord Friday morning, September 24, 2010, at the Linton Nursing & Rehab Center in Linton. She was born in Linton on December 3, 1916, the daughter of Roscoe and Pearl (Starkey) Valandingham.

Sybil was a homemaker and was an avid Bible reader. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Linton where she taught Sunday school for twenty years.

She is survived by her daughter, Annalee (Jack) Heady of Linton; a son, Mark Wakefield ( fiancÚ Kyla Thompson) of Worthington; two grandchildren, D'lee Carpenter and Steven Wakefield; two great-grandchildren, Whitney and Dalton Carpenter; a sister, Mary Kirby of Albany; a brother-in-law, Donald Thonn of Bloomington; and many nieces and nephews which she treated as grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 58 years, James Wakefield on April 30, 1997. Two sisters, Becky Haskett and Peggy Thonn, and one brother, Jack Valandingham, also preceded her.

Funeral services will be held at Linton First Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 27, 2010, with Rev. David Tyra officiating.

Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Linton with Rev. Kenneth Adams.

Visitation will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m., and Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
