Samuel Moses Farris, 90, Jasonville, left this world at 6:25 p.m. on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Shakamak Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Jasonville. He was born June 16, 1920 in Jasonville, the son of Samuel Harrison Farris and Hannah (Thomas) Farris.
He married Helen Mae (Walters) Farris on June 9, 1951 and she passed away on September 5, 1991.
He was a coal miner and a healthcare administrator where he built, owned and operated Farris Lombardy Nursing Home of South Bend, Ind. He was an Army veteran of WWII and served in the military for five years.
He liked fishing, camping, spending time with family and grandchildren, attending church, helping kids and others.
He was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, South Bend Masonic Lodge #294 F&AM, Terre Haute Scottish Rite, Past Patron of Rose Croix, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Shriners Ancient Arabic Order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, Kiwanis, Moose Lodge of South Bend, YMCA, and he volunteered at the Jasonville Senior Citizen's Center.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Dale Johnson of Clinton, Ind.; four grandchildren Tawnia (Farris) Hemmen, Clint Farris, Hannah (Johnson) Stone and Chelsea Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Jess and Kassandra Hemmen, Devin, Arabella and Hayven Farris.
He was preceded by his parents; wife; son Larry; brother Herbie Thomas; half-brothers Edward G. Farris and Perry Farris; and half-sister, Kathyrn Farris.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Cox Funeral Home in Jasonville.
Visitation at the funeral home will be Sunday, Oct. 3 from 5-8 p.m. with a Masonic Memorial Service at 7 p.m. and on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
A funeral service will be conducted on Monday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Sam Bush officiating. The place of burial with military graveside rites will be Peavey Cemetery in Howesville, Ind.
