She was born in Linton on Dec. 25, 1916, the daughter of John Jacob and Fredrika (Strietelmeier) Berns.
She was a graduate of Linton-Stockton High School and the Indiana Business College.
Marie worked during WWII as a secretary at the Indianapolis Naval Ordnance Plant. She retired from American United Life Insurance Company in Indianapolis as a public relations specialist.
She was a long-time member of Broad Ripple Methodist Church and the Shepherd Center, both in Indianapolis. She had served as a precinct committeewoman for the Republican Party.
She is survived by a son, John W. (Jannette) Corbett of Lillian, Ala., a daughter, Ann (Thomas) Burke of Orefield, Pa., four grandchildren, Anne Lynn Corbett, Elizabeth Corbett Major, and Evan and Daniel Burke, and two great-grandchildren, Finn Sweet and Isabella Major.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joe R. Corbett in 1988, two sisters, and four brothers.
Visitation will be at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton on Friday from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Graveside service will be at Fairview Cemetery in Linton at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 8, 2010, the Rev. Mike Roth officiating.
