She was born on Aug. 5, 1916, in Linton to Earl and Alice (Miller) Weaver. She married Lawrence Eugene Stephens in 1935.
She was employed with General Electric in Linton for 28 years, retiring in 1982. Involved in the community of her birth most of her adult life, she owned and operated Stephens' Lakes for 30 years. She then owned and managed 12th Street Restaurant and the Dutch Oven Restaurants during the 1990's. She was an owner and manager of Conklin Auto Sales in Linton until her final retirement in 2005 and was a Chamber member through many of those years.
Survivors include: one daughter, Judy (Larry) Conklin of Linton; grandchildren, Sean (Beth) Conklin, Scott (Tracy) Conklin and Shannon Conklin; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Violet Roberts, Betty Hale, both of Linton and Billie Richards of Mishawaka,
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Steve, better known as "Pip" of 31 years; one daughter, Carolyn Joy; five brothers, Ervin, Irwin, Robert, Ronnie, Gene and four sisters, Dorothy, Caroline, Annie Louise and Leota.
The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Calvary Baptist Church in Linton with envelopes available at the Funeral Home.
Visitation hours will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 9, at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton.
Funeral service will begin on Saturday, October 9 at 1p.m. at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel with Dr. Eugene Riker officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
