Harold Joe Smith, 83, Indianapolis, passed away Oct. 23, 2010.
He was born Nov. 6, 1926 in Worthington, to the late Russell Smith and Edith Chestnut Morris. He married Jean Foxx on July 3, 1946 at Indianapolis, and she preceded him in death February 2, 1995.
He retired as an office manager for the Indianapolis Department of Public Works and had previously been employed as an optician by White-Haines Optical Company. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a 50-year member of Prospect Masonic Lodge No. 714 F & AM.
Survivors include his son, David (Mary) Smith of Indianapolis; daughter, Cindy (J.D.) Powell Bewley of Indianapolis; grandchildren Maj. Jeremy (Marybeth) Smith, Matt (Megan) Smith, Andy (Stephanie) Smith, Jim (Sabrina Kutchback) Smith II, and Melissa (Kelly) Smelser.
He was also preceded in death by his brother Russell "Jack" Smith; sisters Marian Matney and Irma Thacker; grandson Ben Smith; and stepmother Wilma Smith.
Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 26 in Singleton Community Mortuary and Memorial Center in Indianapolis with visitation two hours prior to the service at the mortuary.
Burial will be in Round Hill Cemetery.
