Janice Eleanor (Dunford) Campbell, 72, of rural Lyons passed at 10:50 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 25 2010 at her home near Lyons after nearly a three year struggle with rare type of cancer.

She was born in Sullivan County on Jan. 23, 1938 to Eva Ernestine (Robertson) and Perry Glenn Dunford.

A 1956 graduate of Pleasantville High School, she received the Mary Sherman Scholarship and completed her undergraduate degree at Indiana State Teachers College in three years. She was married to James C. Campbell on July 26, 1959 and received her M.S. degree in August 1962 from I.S.U. Her 32 years as a public school teacher included Elm Park (Sullivan), L&M (Lyons), Harrison, Tecumseh, Washington, and Franklin Elementary Schools (Vincennes).

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years James; one son, Major (Ret.) James C. Campbell, II (Lee Ann) and their son, James C. III of Morristown, AZ; granddaughters: Michelle and Elizabeth Campbell of Phoenix, AZ; one daughter Jena Bower (Mike) of Vincennes, and her son Jeffrey Campbell (Lydia) of Lyons; two brothers, Eldon L. (Betty) Dunford of Shelburn, and Larry A. (Jeanette) Dunford of Prairieton; four nephews, Daren, Andrew, David and Bobby Joe Dunford; sister-in-law, Marjorie Shoptaw of Bloomfield; one aunt, Helen Talley of Dugger.

Janice was a member of Shiloh Church of Christ in Sullivan County until her transfer to Vincennes First United Methodist Church in 1964 and to Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church in 1994 after retirement.

She was a past member of Lyons Jr. Mrs. Home Extension Club (now M & M's), Newberry Progressive Club, Lyons Order of Eastern Star No. 371; a 4-year leader of Adventures in Red Hats; and held lifetime memberships in the National Education Association and Indiana State Teachers Association.

Visitation will from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 21 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Lyons.

Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor John Meunier at Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church east of Lyons at 11 a.m. on Friday. Burial will be in Prairie Chapel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, plants, or gifts, the family requests donations to Hospice of Bloomington Hospital.
