Joel Matthew "Matt" Mathis, 58, of Ellettsville, died Friday morning at Bloomington Hospital.
Born Sept. 18, 1952 in Bloomington, he was the son of John and Vera (McArtor) Mathis.
He was disabled, but had formerly worked at General Electric in Bloomington. He loved to deer hunt and build racing cars, especially anything Mopar. He was a member of the American Legion Post 18.
He is survived by his mother, of Bloomington, his significant other, Pam Wampler, of Ellettsville; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Christy Mathis, Ellettsville; two step-daughters and son-in-law, Misty and Jeremy Cormier, of Ellettsville and Heidi Wampler, at home; one brother and sister-in-law, Jeffery Mark and Bobbi Mathis, of Bloomington; one grandson, Xander Mathis and five step-grandchildren, Carly Thibodeaux, Whitney Cormier, Ashton Cormier, Aaron Brossard and Alyna Wampler. He was preceded in death by his father, one sister, Jonell Frye and one brother, John Michael Mathis.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Deremiah-Frye Mortuary Greene and Harrell Chapel in Bloomington with Rev. Alan Phillips officiating.
Friends may visit the family on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
