He was a life-long resident of Linton, born on April 13, 1937, to Mary Esther Mathena and Leo Mitchell.
Jerry was raised by his mother and step-father, John C. Wilson. On Sept. 16, 1959, Jerry married Bessie M. "Betty" (Pearson) and they had five children.
Jerry served in the US Army and later joined the Carpenter's Union. He owned and operated Mid-Town Communications/Mid-Town Body Shop and retired in 1991.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; three daughters: Rhonda (Tim) Carnes of Linton, Kelly (Cary) Snyder of Sullivan, and Tracy Mathena of Linton; daughter-in-law, Bobbie (Brock) Mathena-Osborne of Bloomington; grandchildren: Luke (Kristy) Jerrell, Dusty Jerrell, Chance Schubla, Shea (Bobby) Rose, Mickala Snyder, Jesse McCammon, Randi Mathena, Shiann (Logan) Hobbs, Ethan and Bailee Mathena, and Alister Osborne: great-grandchildren: Collier & Keegan Jerrell and Dylan & AlacZandra Jerrell and Oliver Hobbs. A brother, Samuel James (Patty) Wilson of Wilmington, NC, also survives.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, step-father John C. Wilson, two children-Lorrie Ann Mathena (12/15/1962) and Jerry Shane Mathena (7/16/2000).
Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton.
Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites provided by American Legion Post #22.
Friends may call at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel from 4-8 p.m. on Monday and from 9 a.m. until the hour of service on Tuesday.
