He was a veteran of the United States Army and Retired from the National Guard in Lafayette. He retired from Greene County General Hospital, working many years in maintenance. He was a member of the Bibleway Church and the American Legion Post #22, both of Linton.
He is survived by his wife, Ina E. (Bedwell) Fields of Linton; a son, Randy (Jamie) Woodward of Linton; a daughter, Roberta (Marty) Gilbert of Linton; two brothers, David Fields of Linton and Randy Fields of Worthington; a sister, Sharon Phegley of Linton; four grandchildren, Randy J. and Shane L. Gilbert, Stacy Glasgow and Christy Crites; and one great-grandson, Evan Crites.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Humbert; mother, Doris Pearl Fields; and adopted father, Cecil Fields.
Graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 31, 2010, Pastor Don Evans officiating, with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion Post #22 of Linton.
A private family viewing will be held at the funeral home.
Arrangements are being handled by Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton.
