Born March 29, 1928 in Monroe County, He was the son of Ralph and Mary Elva (Sharr) Carter.
He was a member of the Bloomfield IOOF Lodge #457 for 65 years and the Journeyman Stonecutters Association retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church in Linton.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie L. (Rigdon) Carter of Linton, whom he married December 2, 2001; one son, Duane "AD" Carter of Bloomington; Step Daughter, Delores Neal (Samuel) of Spencer; sister, Jessie Hays of Bloomington; three grandchildren, Lindsay Bradley (Andy), Dustin Carter, and Bradley Carter all of Bloomington; his step grandchildren, Brandie Maskell (Michael) of Spencer and Casey Neal (Jessica) of Martinsville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Martin, sister, Mildred Jackson, one brother, Russell Carter and his parents.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield, with Rev. Myron Young and Rev. Dan Kemp officiating. Interment will be in Carmichael cemetery in rural Bloomfield.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until the hour of services Tuesday at the funeral home. Bloomfield IOOF Lodge #457 will have services Monday evening at the funeral home.
