Margaret M. Hardesty, 89, of Valparaiso formerly of Union Township, passed away Friday, Dec. 31, 2010 at home.
She was born Feb. 20, 1921 in Hobart to Ross and Ruby (Roper) Graham and graduated from Wheeler High School. Margaret volunteered with the VNA Hospice where she received their Volunteer of the Year Award in 2003. She will be remembered for the many homes she wallpapered in Lake & Porter Counties and as an avid card player.
On April 21, 1940 she married Ray S. Hardesty who preceded her in death in 1984. Survivors include their children: Marcia (James) Carson of Valparaiso, Harold (Deborah) Hardesty of Hobart, Charles (Mary Lou) Hardesty of Valparaiso, Jane (John Donald) Petho of Bloomfield, Susan (Jim) Spurr of Hebron, sister, Sarabel Nowlin of Louden, TN, grandchildren: Matt and Todd Carson, Amy Hardesty-Asher, Eric, Ryan and Mark Hardesty, Eric Hardesty, Melissa Kitkowski, Stephen Petho, Amanda Susdorf, Adam and Ashley Spurr and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by brothers and sisters: Helen Rouse, Frances Smith-Tener, Dorothy Graham, Lyle, Lewis, Howard and Roland Graham, great-granddaughter, Grace Hardesty and daughter-in-law, Nancy Hardesty.
A funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso with burial at Mosier Cemetery.
Visitation Tuesday from 2 -- 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 -11 a.m.
