She was born on June 16, 1927 in Solsberry to George and Opal (Mason) Miller.
Essie enjoyed collecting dolls, crocheting, and going to yard sales. She was a member of Southside Church of God.
Essie is survived by her children, Violet Hughbanks of Linton, John (Wanda) Shepherd of Linton, and Dudy (Bill) Braunsdorf of Tennessee, 15 grandchildren, and 38 great-grandchildren.
Essie was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands John Shepherd and Robert Allen; two daughters, Gladys F. Myers and Sharon Hughbanks; two sons, James Shepherd and Robert Shepherd; a brother, Elza Lloyd Miller; half-brother, Ernest Miller; half-sister, Esta Miller; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m until noon on Wednesday, Jan. 5 at McClanahan-Lee Funeral Home in Jasonville.
Service will be at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 5, at the funeral home with Brother Russell Black officiating. Burial will follow in Sassafras Cemetery.
