She was born Oct. 30, 1918 in Greene County the daughter of Harley and Elmira (Burcham) Bucher.
Ellen or Honey as she was known to many was a homemaker and also worked as a secretary for Paul Haywood and had worked at Indiana University and RCA. She was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Bloomington.
Surviving relatives of Honey include one son James Edward McElroy of Bloomington, three daughters; Joellen Allen-Burton (Ronald) of Washington, Ill.; Donna Carnegie (Andy) and Carol Carnegie-Haynes (Bill) both of Bloomington. One brother Curtis Bucher of Bloomfield and nine grandchildren; Roger Allen (Pam), Gayanne Wilson (Mike), Jyme Johnston (Bruce), Lori Deck (Jay), Lisa Alexander (John), Chris Carnegie (Corrie), Scott Carnegie (Stephanie), Jimmie McElroy (Amanda) and Courtney Vencel (Logan), twenty two great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Herbert McElroy on May 5, 2003, her parents, three sisters; Jessie Bucher, Georgia Bucher and Josephine Baker, two brothers William Bucher and Lee Bucher, one granddaughter Amanda Carnegie Abel and two son-in-laws Chris Carnegie and Roger Allen.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield and 1 p.m. until the hour of service at the church.
Service will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011 at the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Bloomington with the Rev. Frank VanAllen officiating. Burial will follow at Scotland Cemetery, and family wishes any donations to be made to the St. Paul United Methodist Church.
