She was born Aug. 13, 1927, in Jaybird, the daughter of Loris and Pearl (Franklin) Souders.
She retired in 1972 after 16 years of owning and operating her own beauty salon in Linton. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Linton, was past president of the VFW Women's Auxiliary, past president of the Ladies Civitan and Business & Professional Women, both of Linton, past president of the Greene County Historical Society, was a three-time president of the Greene County Democrat Women's Club, and was trustee and president of the board of the Margaret Cooper Public Library.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth W. (Diana) Fordyce of Linton, and two daughters, Carolyn (Louhon) Tucker of Naperville, Ill., and Joyce Wiggington of Roanoke, Va., a brother, Kenny Souders of Linton, a sister, Brenda Scott of Linton, four grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Fordyce on March 20, 1989, her daughter and step-daughter, Dianna Ruff and Billianna Villian, four brothers, Alfred, Henry, Everett, and Lynzie Souders, three sisters, Joetta Turpin, Annetta French, and Barbara Targett, and a great-grandchild.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at Fairview Cemetery with Father Michael Madden officiating.
Welch & Corentt Funeral Home in Linton is in charge of arrangements.
The family has suggested, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association through the funeral home.
