Born March 11, 1934 in Louisville, Ky., he was the son of Samuel and Rosa (Greenwell) Jewell.
He was an electronic technician for Brown's TV in Lyons and later owned and operated S & D Sales in Lyons. He was a deputy sheriff in Monroe County. He served his country in the Korean war with the United States Air Force and in later years served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Linton, American Legion post #479 in Lyons, and AMVETS post # 2000 in Bloomington.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Dora Mae (Niceley) Jewell whom he married June 12, 1953; his children, Terry R. Jewell (Mary) of Bloomington, Vicki S. Weakley (Timothy R.) of Nashville, Ind., Robby Jewell (Deanna) of Bloomfield, Sandra Lee Hawkins (Richard) of Lyons, Richard D. Jewell (Angela) of Brooks, Ky., a granddaughter he and Dora raised as their own, Brandy Logan (David) of Lyons, and grandsons raised as their own, Anthony R. Jewell and Dustin B. Jewell (Stacey) both of Bloomington; one brother, Roger Jewell (Cathy) of Nashville, Tenn.; 25 grandchildren, 53 great=grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by one son, Randal Lee, one brother, Joseph, one sister, Ruth Cahill, two grandsons, Keith Michael Jewell and Alex Keller and his parents.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, at Calvary Baptist Church in Linton, with Rev. Eugene Riker officiating. Interment will be in Prairie Chapel Cemetery in rural Lyons.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Lyons and from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Wednesday at the church.
