Raymond Steele, 88, of Indianapolis and formerly of Linton and Jasonville, passed away on Monday morning, Jan. 31, 2011, at Robin Run Health Care Facility in Indianapolis.
He was born Sept. 6, 1922, in Gilmore, the son of Claude and Alpha (Payton) Steele.
He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, serving on the USS Daley destroyer. He worked and retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane. He was a member of the Bloomfield American Legion and a life member of Crane V.F.W.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn June (Glenski) Steele of Indianapolis; a son, Ron (Janet) Steele of Bloomington; a daughter, Sharon Steele of Indianapolis; a granddaughter, Martina (Steele) (Jeff) Swaby of Linton; two grandsons, William Ray (Leanna) Steele of Indianapolis and Aaron Steele of Smithville; three great-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and three sisters.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3 at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton with Pastor Roy McRoberts officiating. Burial will follow at Peavey Cemetery in Jasonville with the Bloomfield American Legion Post 196 conducting military graveside rites.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and after 11 a.m. Wednesday.
