Betty Blackwood (Coen) Bowman, 95, of Linton, and spent her winters in Estero, Fla., passed away on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.

Born in Greene County, on Jan. 11, 1916, she was the daughter of John Hunter and Foreste (Shake) Blackwood. She married her first husband, Dihone Coen on June 8, 1938, who passed away on Oct. 24, 1962 and later married William Bowman on April 29, 1972.

Betty was a school teacher in the Marco School and also worked at Coen's Grocery in Linton. She was a member of Linton United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, Columbian 140, Greene County Shrine Club (Zorah Temple) and American Legion Auxillary, Linton Post #22.

Surviving family includes a step-son, Nick (Phyllis) Bowman of Sandborn; two step-daughters, Nancy (Larry) Goodwin and Anita Bowman; former daughter-n-law, Shelia Pentecost of Florida; several step-grandchildren and great-grand-children; one sister, Beverly June (Don) Gregg of Sandborn; nephews, John R. Gregg of Sandborn, James R. Gregg of Bloomington, Dr. Joseph R. (Shelly) Gregg of Vincennes; great nieces, Jozie and Justine Gregg and great nephews, John Blackwood Gregg and Hunter Gregg.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Dihone Coen (Oct. 24, 1962), William Bowman (Oct. 15,1987), and one son, J. P. Coen (Nov.1992).

Friends may call at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, at the funeral home with John R. Gregg officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Linton.
