Ruth Mix Carnahan, born Nov. 5, 1918 in Westphalia, passed away at United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville, IL, on Feb. 3, 2011 at 11 P.M CST.
Ruth was the daughter of Melville A. and Ruby (Boyer) Mix.
She graduated from Edwardsport High School in 1936. Ruth married Robert W. "Bob" Carnahan on Feb. 4, 1937; and he preceded her in death on June 1, 1975.
She had been a member of First Baptist Church of Bicknell since 1937. Ruth was survived by her children, Don and Pat Carnahan of Carlisle, IN; Mike Carnahan of Edwardsport; Joyce and Jerry Memering of Vincennes; grandchildren, Steve and Shellie Carnahan of Carlisle, Andy Carnahan of Dallas, Texas, Michelle Carnahan and James Ruiz of Carmel, Jennifer Carnahan of Zionsville, Renee and Al Degner of Columbus, Robert and Jamie Memering of Washington, Mark Memering of Vincennes; great-grandchildren: Michael Ruiz of Carmel, Matthew and Lauren Degner of Columbus, Cynthia and Addison Memering of Washington, Jay, Kayla and Noah Carnahan of Bruceville. She also has step-great-grandchildren, Pacey and Savannah Fossmeyer and Cade Davies of Carlisle.
Ruth and her husband Bob were farmers and grain handlers in northern Knox County establishing Carnahan Grain, Inc.
She was the first woman to serve on the First Federal Bank Board of Directors in Vincennes. She volunteered at the area nursing homes visiting with the residents and seeing that every resident received a card for every birthday and holiday.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Rex Mix and Melville (Bill) Mix
Funeral service for Ruth will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at the Bicknell First Baptist Church.
Visitation will be on Monday, Feb. 7, from 3 to 7 p.m. also at the church.
