John Edward "Pops" Schoeppe, 76, of Linton, went to be with his Heavenly Father at 9:25 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at Glenburn Home in Linton.

He was born Aug. 12, 1934, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, the son of Rudolph J. and Clara Schoeppe.

He was a Korean War and Vietnam War Navy veteran and retired from the United States Navy. He worked at the Worthington Cord Factory and was a former member of the Linton American Legion Post #22.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley A. (Poyser) Schoeppe, to whom he was married July 26, 1980; three daughters, April of California, Karen (Mike) Schoeppe of Long Beach, California and Cheryl of Apple Valley, Calif.; two sons, James (Kyla) Hargrove of Linton and Arthur Hargrove of Arkansas; three sisters, Margie (Ray) Huber of Florida, Ruby Jean (Leo) Christy of Mountainburg, Ark., and Alene Schoeppe of Tulsa, Ok.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Chris Hargrove, Aug. 4, 1994; a brother, Charles Schoeppe; and a sister, Dorothy.

Funeral service will be conducted at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 2 p;m. Tuesday, Feb. 8 with Pastor Jerry Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

The Linton American Legion will conduct military graveside rites.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Tuesday until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
