Mary Anne Diemer Farris, 85, of Bloomfield, passed away Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 at St. Paul Hermitage in Beech Grove, Ind.
She was born May 10, 1925 in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Bernard Peter and Sue E. (Laibe) Diemer.
Mary Anne graduated from Alvernia High School in Chicago in 1942; she attended Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1946. She received her Master of Arts in 1951 and her Certificate of Counseling and Guidance in 1972 from Indiana University. She taught at Jasper High School from 1945 to 1950, Arlington Heights High School from 1951 to 1952, and Bloomfield High School from 1967 to 1990. She was a founding member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Bloomfield. Mary Anne was awarded the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods Saint Mother Theodore Outstanding Alumnae Medallion in 1970, the Theta Sigma Psi National Journalistic Honorary Fraternity in 1951, and the Brute' Award, a Diocesan Service Award from the Diocese of Evansville.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Christopher Farris Schwarz.
She is survived by her children, William (Ember) of Tulsa, Okla., Marc of Carmel, David of San Antonio, Texas, Lisa (Paul) of Avon, Amy (Jim) of Kingwood, Texas, Robb of New Palestine, Ind., Scott of Hoboken, New Jersey, and Julie of Indianapolis. She has 21 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a brother, Mr. and Mrs. William (Irene) Diemer of Peoria, Ill.
Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Linton.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in Terre Haute or St. Paul Hermitage in Beech Grove.
