He was born in Linton on Aug. 28, 1924, the son of Harry R. and Rose B. (Kuper) Ferry.
Bob attended St. Peter's Parochial School in Linton, and graduated from Linton High School in 1943. He declined four college scholarships to join the Army Air Corp and went on to fly missions during World War II. He served three years as a flight engineer with the air transport command and later flew for the Foreign Liquidation Commission.
He was the first employee hired at Linton General Electric where he worked as a cost specialist for 34 years, retiring in 1986.
Bob was incredibly civic minded; he was very active with the Boy Scouts of America in Linton during the 1960s. In addition, he was the oldest past Exalted Ruler of the B.P.O. Elks 866, a member of the American Legion Post 22, and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, all of Linton. He was instrumental in the construction of the Little League baseball field and the Linton swimming pool. He helped to build St. Peter Church in 1964, where he was a lifelong member. Bob and his wife, Ernie, were honored to receive the Brute Award from St. Peter Catholic Church in 2003.
Bob and Ernie, along with their children, were fortunate to travel extensively around the world. He was an avid golfer, being able to play several times a week. Anyone who knew Bob was aware of his strong sense of faith and his immense love for his family. His amazing smile and contagious laugh will be missed by those that were lucky enough to know him. He was the ultimate family man.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ernestine (Prudhomme) Ferry, whom he married May 11, 1947. He is also survived by his seven children, Joe Ferry of Oceanview, Hawaii, Paula (Bob) Sedrowski of Belmont, Mich., Debbie (Greg) Reed of Clinton, Ellen (Bill) Sanders of Linton, Nancy (Nick) Karazsia of Linton, Tom (Laurie) Ferry of Carmel, and John (Laleh) Ferry of LaJolla, Calif., 14 grandchildren, MaLeia Reed, Chrissy (Chris) Straw, Suzanne (Paul) Moulton, J.R. Mikulak, Dr. Steven Mikulak, Jared Sanders, Erin Sanders, Alexis Sanders, Amir Ferry, Grant Karazsia, Lauren Karazsia, Kayla Smock, Ian Smock, and Ellie Smock, and five great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Ryan, Nick, Jack, and Elliot.
