New acts added to June 4 benefit concert
Two more acts have been added to the entertainment line-up for a June 4 benefit concert in Linton.
Linton native Holly Lynn Marcum, the former Holly Dunn, and U.S. 231, a popular area bluegrass group, have both committed to perform for the event at the Linton-Stockton High School auditeria.
The new addition will join award-winning bluegrass duo "The Roys", Sheila Stephen and the Road Monkey and Kade Puckett for the 7 p.m. show, sponsored by the Linton Community Development Corporation, the non-profit manager and operator of the Linton Music Festival.
Proceeds from the show will benefit the Linton Community Development Corporation, which wants to continue producing events like this show and the Linton Music Festival in an effort to bring people into the community to spark economic development, according to organizer Jared Albright.
Holly Lynn is a 1999 Linton-Stockton High School graduate now living in the Nashville, Tenn., Area, where she is pursuing a professional singing career. In her full-time job, Lynn works in the administration department for EMI Christian Music Group in Brentwood, Tenn.
Lynn's performance credits include the former Roy Clark and Friends Show in Linton, the Nashville Follies Theater, Mitchell Opry House and Accapella renditions of the National Anthem at Indiana Pacers games and the Indianapolis 500 qualifications.
U.S. 231 has performed at the Linton Music Festival.
The show headliners The Roys -- Lee and Elaine -- have just released a new CD, "Lonesome Whistle", which recently landed at No. 7 on the Billboard Bluegrass album chart.
The Roys were the 2010 ICM Duo of the Year.
Their video for the new single "Coal Minin' Man" is currently airing on GAC and is now on the ballot for the Great American County TV's Top 20 Country Countdown.
Stephen is a former Miss Indiana and a nationally known singer and songwiter, who has written hits for Reba McEntire ("New Fool At An Old Fame") and Loretta Lynn ("Honky Tonk Leave Him Alone")
Her name may also be recognized as the host of the "Mid-Day Get-Away" and the all-request lunch show "High Noon Saloon" on WHCC Hoosier Country 105 Radio in Bloomington.
Linton guitarist-songwriter Kade Puckett and Bloomington band Sheila Stephen and the Rodeo Monkeys have been booked as opening acts.
Puckett has 25 years of experience playing guitar and specializes in finger style.
Puckett regularly performs at weddings, dinners, reunions, restaurants and other special events as well as offers guitar lessons and workshops.
Advance tickets, priced at $20, $15, and $10 for three different seating levels, are now on sale.
Tickets will be $2 more at the door.
Tickets will be limited to 500.
They can be purchased at Francis Jewel Box, Linton Sporting Goods, and online at www.LintonEvents.com.
"Ticket sales are under way and a bit slow at the moment, but we're getting ready to send out letters to people that purchased tickets last year (at the Roy Clark show)," Albright added.
