Vera Imogene "Jeanie" Merry

MITCHELL - Vera Imogene "Jeanie" Merry, 79, Mitchell, passed away peacefully at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, May 1, 2011 at White River Lodge in Bedford following a lengthy illness.

Born Feb. 29, 1932, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Orland and Josephine (Hicks) Merry.

She was a homemaker, resided most of her life in the Mitchell area, and graduated from Huron High School in 1950. Jeanie was a member of the Huron Church of God.

She is survived by: daughter, Vicki Jean Porter, Florida; brothers, Walter E. Merry and wife, Rosie, Mitchell, Frances W. Merry and wife, Gayla, Orleans, and Donald Merry, Bedford; sisters, Barbara Waltz and husband, Paul, Columbus, Shirley Smith, California, Doris Flath, Bloomfield, Darlene Sullivan and husband, Gary, Mitchell, Kathy Wineinger, French Lick; several nieces and nephews.

She was the adopted grandmother of Nicole Grissom and family of Springville.

Her parents; brother, Norman Merry; and two nephews and one niece preceded her in death.

She was a dear and special person with a quick wit and a caring personality.

All who knew her were blest to have her in their lives. She is loved and greatly missed.

A private graveside service will be at Huron Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Smoot officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
