Larry Edward Hayes, 70, of Bloomfield, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2011 at his residence. Larry had been ill for several months due to extensive small cell lung cancer.
Larry was born on Dec. 13, 1940 in Hobbieville in Greene County to Gene and Edith (Bland) Hayes. On June 28, 1958, he was wed to Loessa Royal at his parent's home in Hobbieville.
Larry graduated from Solsberry High School in 1958. He attended Columbia Basin College in Pasco, Washington.
In 1999, he retired from Industrial Contractors. He was a Union Steward of Plumbers and Pipefitters, Local Union 136 of Evansville.
He was a member of the Church of Christ. He had coached girls softball, was a Youth Group Leader, and a Foster Parent and a Volunteer for the "Feed My Sheep" program. Larry was willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Larry enjoyed bingo, flea markets, tinkering, gardening, traveling, visiting with his friends and family, and he loved anything with wheels.
He is survived by his spouse, Loessa of Bloomfield. They had 5 children; Candis (Darrell) Jackson of Medora, Angela (Mike) Ruppel of Switz City, J. Matthew of Bloomfield, Chris (Michelle) of Washington and Melanie (Mike) Campbell of Odon. Larry has 10 grandchildren; Nathan Wise, Chay Alford, Lindsey Hayes, Jessie and Ashlee Hayes, Ryder and Ethan Hayes, Noah, Seth and Malia Gaither. Larry has three great grandchildren; Camilla and Breann Risley and Easton Wise. Larry is survived by 7 step-grandchildren, 10 step-great-grandchildren, and 2 step-great-great-grandchildren. His surviving siblings are Irene Davis, Donald Hayes, Warren Hayes, and Joan Gator.
Larry was proceeded in death by his parents; Gene and Edith Hayes one sister, Gloria Hayes and one grandson, Ian Hayes.
Funeral service will be at Victoria Grace Funeral Home. located in eastern Greene County in Little Cincinnati, Junction 54/45 on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 2 p.m.
Brother Larry Dyer will be officiating the service.
Visitation will on May 18,2011 from 4 to 8 p.m and from noon until the services begin at 2.
