He was born on Dec. 14, 1920, in Linton, to General Marion and Elizabeth (Lucas) Burch. Herbert married Margie 'Jean' Webber on March 1, 1941 and they were married for 70 years.
Herbert served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and the U.S. Navy during WW II. He was employed at NAD Crane, retiring in 1971. He was a member of the Linton First Christian Church and a Past Commander and life member of the DAV.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Burch; three sons, H. Larry (Brenda) Burch and Terry (Dianna) Burch, both of Linton, and Rodney (Martha) Burch of Solsberry; six grandchildren, Michelle (Brad) McKinney of Linton, Tracy (Joel) Swearingen of Greenwood, Tasha (Tim) McGraw of Lake Mary, FL, Emily (David) Hoffmann of Indianapolis, Amanda (Cory) Burch of Bloomfield; and six great-grandchildren, Abbey Burris, Alyssa, Drew and Megan Swearingen, Maggie and Ella McKinney. Also surviving is one sister, Helen Robinson of Plainfield, IN.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Brian Edward Burch; five brothers and four sisters.

Friends may call at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton on Tuesday, June 7 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and from 9 a.m. until the hour of service on Wednesday.
Funeral service will be on Wednesday, June 8, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Warren Shake officiating.
Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Linton with full military rites being presented by the Frank Courtney American Legion Post #22.
