He was born Dec. 24, 1937 in Lafayette, Ind.
He married Dixie "Lynch" Cavanaugh on March 10, 1958 and she survives.
His parents were Joseph P. Cavanaugh and Mary Lucille "Goodman" Cavanaugh.
He retired from the USAF, retired from Crane after 36 years, and was an ammunitions inspector. His hobbies included fishing, gardening and computers.
He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Bicknell Elks.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Paula Cavanaugh of Bicknell and Diana and her husband David Berry of Patoka; one grandchild, Jeremy Berry of Patoka; five sisters, Judy Martin of Lafayette, Penny Daniels of Baltimore, Md., Becky Meganhant of Lafayette, Nina Cavanaugh of Jacksonville, Fla., and Sherry Cavanaugh of Logansport; two brothers, Larry Cavanaugh of Logansport and Dennis Hugunin of Bicknell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Edwin Cavanaugh and John Cavanaugh.
Service will be at Fredrick and Son McClure-Utt Funeral Home Bicknell Chapel on Friday, June 10 at 11 a.m.
Visitation will be Thursday June 9 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fredrick and Son McCLure-Utt Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Bicknell Memorial Cemetery with Pastor John Moreland officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
