Avenelle Heaton, 82, of Bloomfield, passed away 11:48 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2011 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born Oct. 4, 1928 in Greene County, she was the daughter of Bill and Nellie (Bucher) Smith.
She retired in 1985 as a school teacher for Bloomfield Schools. She was a member of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Senior Lunch Club, Argonaut Club, and Delta Kappa Gamma and Psi Iota Si sororities.
Surviving relatives include: her husband, George Heaton of Bloomfield; one daughter, Michaelle LeGrand of Bloomfield; two grandsons, Kevin Adcock of Salina, Kansas and Wyatt LeGrand of Bloomfield; and one great-granddaughter, Ariel Adcock of Salina, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Max Smith and Dickie Smith and her parents.
Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, June 25 at Antioch Christian Church, with Rev. Arlen Pope, Rev. Kevin Wrigley, and William Hasler officiating.
Interment will follow in Antioch Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield and one-hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Bloomfield United Methodist Church or Antioch Christian Church.
