She was born August 28, 1942 in Linton, Indiana to Otis and Marjorie Terrell Helms.
Alice was a graduate of Bloomfield High School and graduated summa cum laude from St. Mary of the Woods College with a BS in Business Management and a minor in Computer Information Systems.
Alice first went to work with the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division in 1960.
After taking time out to raise a family she was then employed at Bloomfield State Bank and subsequently returned to Crane as a Computer Specialist from which she retired.
Upon retirement she was contracted as a System Software Engineer in support of the United States Navy.
Alice was a member of the Bloomfield First Baptist Church, and thoroughly enjoyed time with her family, discussions of science, grammar and current affairs. Alice leaves behind her husband Denny M. Hallett of Bloomington; son Jeffrey H. Van Deventer and his wife Bonnie J. of Bloomfield; daughter Julia F. Van Deventer Cook and her husband Jonathan of Bloomington; son Kenneth O. Koch of Missoula, Montana; grandchildren Ian G., Tyler B., and Krysta M. Van Deventer, Allyson, Madison, and Kimberly Cook, and Aaron and Alisha Norris, four great grandchildren, and a brother, Marvin K. Helms and his wife Lela of Bloomfield.
A gathering of friends and family to pay tribute to Alice's life will be held Thursday June 30, 2011 at the Allen Funeral Home 4155 South Old Highway 37 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
