Ray Autrey, of Anderson, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2011 after an extended illness.
Ray was born on June 6, 1926 in Greene County. He was the son of William and Lillian Autrey.
He served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II in the Pacific Theater, including Okinawa. He received two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star for his service to his country. He retired from Crane Navel Weapons Support Center in 1984 after 38 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Phyllis of Anderson, IN., son Rick (Karen) Autrey of Elwood, IN., daughter in law Jan Autrey of Morristown, IN., grandchildren, Jeff Autrey of Noblesville, IN., Brad (Naomi) Autrey of Greenfield, IN., Elizabeth Autrey and Mathew Autrey and great granddaughter Ally Autrey of Morristown, IN., brother Bill (Nancy) Autrey of Lebanon, IN., and sister Martha (George) Helms of Bloomfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Gary Autrey and three brothers, Elmer, Van, and Max and three sisters, Laverne, Emma and Margaret.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Jenkins and Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
There will be no visitation. Private graveside services will be held at Mt. Nebo Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Frankton Indiana United Methodist Church Building Fund through Jenkins and Sons Funeral Home.
