He was born in Sullivan County on April 11, 1946, the son of Benjamin Jewell and Winifred Blue Jewell.
He attended Union High School's Class of 1964. He retired from the railroad industry, working for the Milwaukee and Illinois Central.
He enjoyed arrowhead hunting, fishing, ginseng hunting, gardening, and his dog Molly. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his wife and grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Gary Jewell, William Jewell, and Larry Jewell, two sisters, Kay Jewell Ogelsby, and Barbara Jewell Patterson.
He is survived by his wife, Amanda (Mandy) Fifer Jewell whom he married on August 17th and enjoyed 33 years of happiness and love. He is also survived by three daughters, Cara Arthur (Saul) of Jackson, OH, Tammy Corbin (Marty) of Merna, IL, and Melissa Jewell-Vest of Linton, two sons, Todd Jewell (Emily) of Pleasantville and Daniel Jewell of Terre Haute, one sister, Shirley Jewell Barrick of Franklin, IN.; 12 grandchildren, Alexander, Aristotle, Achilles, and Ajax Arthur, Seth and Addison Jewell, Douglas, Christopher (Amneris), Allison, and Megan Corbin, Jaxson and Danae Vest, one great-grandson, Landyn Corbin, one great-granddaughter on the way, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 23 at Newkirk's Funeral Home in Dugger with Rev. Steve Talpas and Rev. Ralph Roach officiating.
Interment will be in the Dugger Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, July 22.
