Steven D. Nance, 62, of Linton, passed away at 7:11 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

He was born March 31, 1949 in Indianapolis, and was the son of James and Norma (Bohannon) Nance.

He had 29 years of combined federal service. He served in the Navy for 16 years where he was a first class radioman. After that, he worked for the Army at NSWC Crane for 13 years. He was a member of the Providence Baptist Church of Jasonville and Linton American Legion Post 22, where he was past commander.

Survivors include his wife, Jille A. (Engle) Nance, to whom he was married Jan. 2, 1998, three sons, James (Christy) Nance of Plainville, Chris (Darlene) Nance of Bloomington, and Eric (Nikki) Page of Linton, two daughters, Rebecca (Tim) Rogers of Crane and Mindy Page of Bloomfield, a brother, James (Letha) Nance of Dale, two sisters, Julie Mumma (Dan) Evard of Indianapolis and Melissa (Scott) Shorter of Linton, a sister-in-law, Sue (Jack) Reed of Linton, a brother-in-law, Mike (Lou) Engle of Bartlett, Tenn., and nine grandchildren, Bobbie, Ashlyn, Mackenzie, Jacob, Erika, Emily, Katelyn, Kimberly, and Noah.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4, at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton, Pastor Darren McDonald officiating. Burial will follow at Dugger Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Linton American Legion.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. on Wednesday, and after 9 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Mark Porter

Mark Porter, 50, of Bloomington, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2011 at his residence.

Born Jan. 24, 1961 in Linton, he was the son of Lloyd and Delores (Higgins) Porter Sweeny.

Mark graduated with a degree in heating and cooling, and he worked for the city of Bloomington in maintenance for 12 years. He was a member of the Switz City Christian Church.

Surviving relatives include his children Heather (Jason) Chesnut of Lyons, Justin "Norm" (Jayme) Porter of Bloomfield; one half-daughter Megan Porter of Martinsville; four grandchildren, Bailee Chesnut and Micah Chesnut both of Lyons, and Ayden Porter and Madison Fleetwood both of Bloomfield; two brothers Greg (MJ) Porter of Newberry and Bruce (Carla) Porter of Switz City; his mother Delores Porter Sweeny of Bloomfield; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Lloyd W. Porter and one sister-in-law, Linda Porter.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, and 9 a.m. on Thursday until the hour of service at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the Rev. Ralph Roach officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Chapel Cemetery in Lyons.
