Wayne C. Opel, 82, of Bloomfield, passed away at 3:42 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 8, 2011 at Meadowood Health Pavilion in Bloomington.
Born Dec. 13, 1928 in Hayesville, Ind., he was the son of Lee and Florence (Street) Opel.
Wayne was in the communications department at NWSC Crane. He served his country in World War II with the United States Air Force. He was a member of the American Legion Post 196 Bloomfield.
Surviving relatives include: one son, Wayne Opel Jr. of Bloomfield; three daughters, Dagmar Opel and Debbie Byers both of Bloomfield and Diane Hasler of Bloomington; two brothers, George and Dennis Opel both of Jasper; one sister, Patricia Meyer of Jasper; and his grandchildren, Blake, Bailee, Hank, Cameron, Erika, Emma and Gunnar.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Inge L. Opel on Dec. 17, 2003, one brother, Don Opel and his parents.
Funeral service will be conducted 1p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12 at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the Rev. Arlen Pope officiating. Interment will follow in Walnut Grove cemetery in rural Bloomfield. Military honors will conducted by Bloomfield American Legion Post 196.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, and one hour prior to service Friday at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
The family asks that all memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
