He was born in Lebanon on Feb. 14, 1948, the son of Charles and Ruby (Wise) Smith.
Joe was a retired diesel mechanic and an Army veteran, who served in the Vietnam War. He loved working in his garden, tending to his horses, playing with his grandchildren, and spending time at home with his wife and family. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Janice (Tucker) Smith of Bloomfield, five children, Charles (Amanda) Smith and Danny (Tracy) Smith, both of Bloomfield, Tisha (Terry) Daugherty of Oak Grove, KY, Todd Hunt of Huntsville, Alabama, and Syndi (Mike) Mulcahy of Indianapolis; one sister, Rebecca (Keith) Smith of Frankfort; and two brothers, Jack Smith of Tazwell, TN and Jim Bob (Aleeta) Smith of Shelburne.
"Papaw Joe" leaves behind seven beloved grandchildren, Blake, Riley, Devon, Gracie, Ella, Bryton, and Noah.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington on Thursday, Aug. 11, from 4 to 8 p.m.
There will be no funeral service.
