Virgil Rogers, Jr., 88, of Worthington, passed away 12:30 p.m., Sunday, August 14, 2011, at Greene County General Hospital in Linton.
Virgil was born Dec. 4, 1922, in Worthington, to Virgil and Lena (Short) Rogers, Sr.
He was a retired millwright working out of the Indianapolis union. He was a member of Worthington Christian Church, where he was a former deacon, 50 year member of Worthington Greene Lodge #577 F. & A. M. Army veteran of WW II, where he served in the South Pacific, with the 21st evac hospital and Life member of Worthington V. F. W.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Barbara (Shouse) Rogers, Worthington; daughter, Becky (Merl) Strosnider; grandson, Travis (Michelle) Strosnider; great grandchildren, Rocky, Kaylee, Kaeden, Alexis & Delainey; brother, Robert L. (Bob) Rogers, Worthington.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be at, Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington, 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, with Tim Wingfield and Jeff Conrad officiating.
Friends may call at Welch & Cornett 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. Wednesday until time of service.
Burial will be in Worthington Cemetery.
Military graveside rites will be held.
The family has suggested that memorial donations be made to the Worthington Christian Church or to the charity of choice.
